Social networks and websites public media they will have their temporarily paused content as reported this Tuesday by the Government through an official statement.
The measure is taken, according to the official explanation, in the midst of “a reorganization process which aims to improve the production, realization and dissemination of the content they generate.”
The media affected by this resolution are Public Television, National Radio and the stations in the interior, FM Classic, FM Rock, FM Folklorica, Paka Paka and Canal Encuentro.
“The criteria for dissemination on social networks will be unified and digital communication will be restarted after an internal reorganization of the companies,” the official text completed.
Another statement headed with the logo of Radio and Television Argentina (RTA), and signed by the auditor of public media, Diego Chaher, specifies that the interruption occurred at midnight this Tuesday.
In that document, the Government’s will was also expressed to “entrust the management of the networks, and the websites of Public Television, National Radio, together with all its stations, and the FM, solely to the Manager of Digital Media and Relations Institutional RTA SE, this until the company’s communication processes and content are reorganized”.
Last February, through a decree signed by President Javier Milei, the Government determined a intervention in public media and in the state companies that control them.
In parallel, he respectively appointed Diego Chaher as controller of Educ.Ar Sociedad del Estado, of the state news agency Télam, of Radio and Television SE (the firm that contains Public TV, National Radio and the state FM) and of the firm Public Contents, which contains the signals Encuentro, Paka Paka, DeporTV, Acua Mayor and Acua Federal, in addition to the Audiovisual Production Pole and the Argentine Audiovisual Bank of Universal Contents (BACUA). Diego Marías had been appointed deputy auditor, but resigned before completing a month in his position.
The intervention is set for a period of one year and the designated officials take the role of the boards of directors of the state media that will remain under their orbit.
Meanwhile, at the beginning of March, Milei announced the closure of the Télam agency, when he gave the opening speech of the ordinary sessions in Congress.
“We are going to close the Télam agency, which has been used in recent decades as a Kirchnerist propaganda agency,” the President said that Friday night in Congress.
Three days later the agency stopped working, its website was taken down, the agency’s two Buenos Aires headquarters were fenced off, and its employees were “excused” from going to work.
Last week, the Government announced the extension of the Voluntary Retirement Plan for workers at the state news agency.
“Due to the high interest in adhering to the current Voluntary Retirement Plan and, with multiple subscriptions to the respective agreement being fully processed, it is resolved to extend said plan for the exceptional period of seven (7) more days from the day of the date in the authorized terms and conditions,” read the communication bearing Chaher’s signature.
The auditor’s letter, dated May 17, clarified: “This extension of the deadline also applies to the duty to restitute the company’s assets held by employees who are taking advantage of the retirement and/or exemption regime. his homeworks”.
