The third studio album by the American Billie Eilishthe expected Hit me Hard and Softis an elegant work that represents, over ten songs, one more step in her contemporary urban style and, at the same time, heir to the great female performers of the 20th century.
After triumphing at the Oscars with his contribution to the soundtrack of Barbie (2023) with her song What Was I Made For?, Billie Eilish’s album – which was published this Friday, May 17 worldwide – It arrived without having known any advance songsince, in the words of the interpreter on her social networks, she wanted to offer it “everything at once.”
Once again produced with her brother Finneas O’Connell, the new album by Billie Eilish (born in Los Angeles, in 2001) retraces the path opened by its predecessor, Happier than ever2021), in which he considered his life as a young pop star.
Three years later, the image that Eilish projects on the world continues to be a recurring theme in her songs.
“Am I already acting my age?” he asks in the first cut of the album, Skinnya song about the perception that others have of their image in front of the public, about depression and how to deal with world famesomething that the artist has lived with since her early beginnings in music.
With a less aggressive sound than their overwhelming debut album, When we all Fall Asleep where do we go? (2019), this album contains several songs that are vaguely reminiscent of that dark electronic style that made him burst onto the charts around the world, but where a shift towards a more contemporary pop is evident.
Examples of this evolution are seen in songs like Lunch either Chihirowhich appear among the first songs in the repertoire, with a vocation as a product for the dance floors, in which Eilish appears more confident of herself: “I could eat that girl for lunch.”
Birds of a Feather It shows a brighter Eilish, with a teenage pop with a clear flavor of the nineties, in a song about unconditional love, which contrasts with the loneliness that used to be the usual theme of the Californian’s lyrics.
In The Greatest delves into the emotional dependence in toxic love relationships, in which Eilish reveals her desperation to be noticed in a cut that embraces epic pop with synthesizers, guitar and drums to give way to a vengeful The love of my lifewhere he wants to turn the page and leave behind a stormy story: “I have to confess that I lied when I told you that you were the love of my life”.
A signature Billie ending
The album closes with Blueanother more conventional pop song, always with the singer’s imprint, with the characteristic electronic bases of her sound and that sounds like a surrender, a return to depressionand which serves as a review of all the experiences he recounts throughout the album.
With an album that hopes to reap the success of its two predecessors, youngest Grammy winner will visit the stages of Europe and North America starting in September of this year, with a double visit to Barcelona (northeast Spain) on June 14 and 15, 2025.
In Argentina we are still waiting for his return, after his consecrating show at Lollapalloza 2023, at the San Isidro Racecourse.
